December 2018 Newsletter

I hope you've had a peaceful and wonderful holiday season.

As we close out 2018 and look toward next year, I want to thank you all for helping build this movement at the Climate Collaborative! It's been quite a year, with our inaugural National Co+op Grocers awards spotlighting leaders in the industry, an incredible second Climate Day with inspiring speakers who have kept us motivated to act all year long, our first-ever Tracking Progress Update showing the majority of our community is already making progress implementing climate commitments, and so much more.

We've got so much left to do! Next year we'll be launching more working groups and developing a wider set of partnerships and tools to help you engage your consumers, suppliers, and policymakers and build internal leadership on climate change. We can't wait for you to join us in this work. And as always, we want to thank the amazing donors who make our work possible--feel free to reach out if you'd like to learn about becoming an official Climate Collaborative donor.

In the meantime, have a fabulous new year, and we'll see you on Climate Day

Best,

Erin

November 2018 Newsletter

This month we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for helping build our growing climate action movement--especially the amazing donors who make it all possible.

It has been an alarming and scary month for climate advocates, with wildfires devastating California and the newly released US climate assessment quantifying the enormous costs climate change will have on the economy and our health in the coming decades.

It proves more than ever how important the work that we are doing is--and we need your support to make an even bigger impact in 2019. Together, we've already accomplished a truly inspiring amount. In just over a year and a half since we launched, more than 300 companies have made 1,000+ commitments to combat climate change in their operations, and two-thirds of those companies are already reporting that they've made real progress in their efforts.

If you haven't already, I hope you will consider becoming a Climate Collaborative supporter this year, regardless of the level at which you can support our joint efforts. Feel free to email me at [email protected] to set up a call and explore how we can deepen our collaboration and tell your company's story.

Best,

Erin

We want everyone to know about the great work you are doing as part of Climate Day, too! I encourage you to make and submit a short video sharing your company's climate impact story for us to showcase at Expo West.

We'll also be honoring companies for their pioneering contributions to climate action through our second annual National Co+op Grocers Climate Collaborative Awards. Please take a look and consider making a nomination.

September 2018 Newsletter

“We have to have a big tent — including business, governments, NGOs, and activists. Each and every one of us has to step up. Every CEO has to step up. Businesses, companies like mine, can be the leaders in the fight on climate change.”

Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff made these remarks as part of the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) in California this month (read our rundown of the week, written by CC Co-Founder Lara Dickinson, here).

His words definitely ring true for us, and it's heartening to see businesses across industries coming together and making concrete climate commitments at a scale not seen since the Paris Accords were signed in 2015.

The action didn't stop in California this month: The Climate Collaborative hit 300 companies committed to action at Expo East in the midst of our Climate Action Forum. As part of the forum, Jerry Taylor argued passionately for broader bipartisan dialogue on engagement on climate, and some of our all-star companies shared best practices from their climate journeys. We'll be sharing the video of it with all of you shortly.

We also released the findings from our first-ever Tracking Progress Update this month. Two-thirds of companies that made commitments in our first year reported that they are already actively implementing their climate action goals, demonstrating clearly that our industry isn't just waking up to the need for a public dialogue on climate, but are taking real action as well.

Best,

Erin

May 2018 Newsletter

We have a spring in our step this month at the Climate Collaborative. More than 250 companies have joined this movement by making climate commitments! Many of you are sharing your successes in implementation as part of our first Tracking Progress Update, and your responses have already made it clear that companies in this industry are acting on climate at scale. We'll be sharing more insights on the update later this year, and until then, we aren't slowing down!

We have a lot in store for the summer: We're launching our second action group, focused on retailers, a new Retailer Toolkit to support value chain engagement, holding a series of packaging webinars, and we'll be planning a Climate Action Summit at Expo East on September 12--mark your calendars, and hope to see you there!

Best,

Erin
