America is All In on Climate Action

Today, ahead of Saturday's five year anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement, more than 1,400+ businesses, cities, states, investors, and other U.S. institutions stood together and called for an ambitious and equitable national climate response.

This number includes 201 Climate Collaborative companies, from Amy’s Kitchen to Clif Bar, Dr. Bronner’s, Grove Collaborative, Cambridge Naturals, Happy Family Organics, Califia Farms, and more. You can see the full list below.

They joined a diverse set of businesses and institutions representing nearly every corner of the American economy and society—from cement companies like LafargeHolcim to electric utilities like PG&E, to the Episcopal Church, Boston Common Asset Management, the city of Fort Collins, CO, and the commonwealth of Virginia. Broad-based collective calls like this matter—they send a message that it’s not just the progressive left that demands climate action, but a far-reaching bipartisan group of actors from every walk of life in America.

It can be easy to feel petition fatigue in a year like 2020, but letters like this do so much to keep climate change in the news, to keep it in front of lawmakers as they set policy agendas, to keep it top of mind for our customers and our industry, to keep it from being ignored or sidelined when we need more urgent action than ever.

The America is All In Statement, which the Climate Collaborative was a partner in, calls for measures that ensure a COVID economic recovery that grows the economy and creates millions of jobs through expanding clean energy and addressing the climate crisis. These signatories came together in just a number of days following the 2020 election to ensure that the new administration and Congress know that businesses and other institutions strongly support U.S. climate Leadership.

When the Paris Climate Agreement was signed in 2015, it marked the largest ever global effort to combat climate change, with 198 companies pledging to take steps to curb their emissions and finance low-carbon transitions.

In the time since, the U.S. has backtracked on its efforts, and though we are poised to reenter the agreement in January, we have a tremendous amount of work ahead to reestablish a leading role on climate globally.

I’m so proud to see hundreds of Climate Collaborative companies signed on to this statement, and that our industry is being represented in this critical turning point in addressing the climate crisis. We don’t have a moment to slow down or take the foot off our electric pedals, because unlike with COVID, there is no vaccine for climate change.

It will take all of us, rising up and continuously working, to reduce our impacts while calling for broad-based national responses that encourage change, drive innovation, and create the enabling factors for us to protect our communities, supply chains, and future generations from the risks posed by climate change.

Working together, I have tremendous hope for what we can accomplish.
