Aligned Sustainability Reporting Initiative

WORKING TO STREAMLINE SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING IN FOOD & GROCERY

Climate and sustainability reporting has become increasingly complex and burdensome, with companies juggling diverse stakeholder requests, incomplete data, and evolving regulations. The Aligned Sustainability Reporting Initiative (ASRI) was created to ease this burden by bringing greater coherence to climate and sustainability disclosure in the food and grocery industries. Phase 1 one of the ASRI included 20 companies.

Phase One: Setting the Foundation

From August 2024 to April 2025, Phase One of the ASRI focused on laying the groundwork for aligned sustainability reporting across the industry. A Steering Committee was formed to scope the initiative and identify key partners. Through a structured engagement process, the ASRI gathered insights from a wide range of stakeholders via surveys and facilitated conversations. This phase centered on listening, learning, and identifying shared challenges and opportunities—providing a critical foundation for developing solutions in the next phase.

The Working Group has since identified key pathways to streamline and standardize sustainability reporting in the food and grocery industries.

PHASE 1 GOAL: By April 2025, establish a clear framework for a more efficient, standardized sustainability disclosure process across the food and grocery industries.

What’s Next for the Aligned Sustainability Reporting Initiative

Phase Two of the ASRI builds on extensive industry engagement and insights gathered over the past year. This next phase will focus on:

  • Developing Solutions: Drawing from survey feedback and stakeholder input to scope and shape aligned sustainability reporting solutions

  • Prototyping + Testing: Creating and testing early prototypes with industry partners to ensure solutions are practical and effective

  • Building + Engagement: Launching solutions and supporting ongoing industry adoption through continued collaboration and outreach.

This work is designed to ensure that the ASRI continues to reflect industry needs and drive meaningful climate action.
